I called myself getting there early but there were still about 8 folks in line in front of me. A group of about 20 women from a local retirement home came up right after I did. The crowd kept growing and growing and that was for the 12:05 show. Being a writer, I like to observe. My ears picked up on the excitement of the crowd anticipating the movie….young and old. I listened to the various conversations. The oldest woman had to have been in her 80s. I chuckled when I heard her say, “I love me some Tyler Perry, but don’t y’all run over me trying to get in that theater.” The reason why she said that is because the box office didn’t open until about ten or fifteen minutes before the movie was supposed to start showing and once they did open up; we all had to stand in another line and wait for them to unlock the doors.
Anyway, you’re not reading this to find out about my experience in line. Why Did I Get Married is a dramatic comedy. The cast ensemble was perfect. Each couple had their own set of issues. The storyline was realistic. I don’t want to go into too many details because I want you to go see the movie. You’ll laugh; you’ll cry; you’ll cheer and you might even find yourself talking back at the screen.
I give it 5 stars and I plan on seeing it again!
I want to see more movies made like this so please go see it this weekend. The first weekend numbers count. Yes, I did check my stub to make sure they didn’t give credit to another film. If people support movies like this; someone might get a hold of one of my books (My Invisible Husband or Paige’s Web) and feel so inclined to make them into a movie (shameless plug 🙂 ).

I can’t stop turning the pages!”As I revealed earlier this week, one of my guilty pleasures is watching a few reality TV shows and I plan on watching I Love New York 2 (in re-runs since it conflicts with Girlfriends and The Game…smile). I caught the shows first show in re-run and have to say 20 Pack definately stood out among the group of men. Princess Dominique interviewed him recently.

Britney Spears opened up the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards show with an okay performance. I didn’t like the outfit, well what little there was, but those were some slamming boots. Britney seemed a little stiff and some of her dance moves forced.I’m sure it was just Britney being nervous. Did I say I loved the boots?
Silverman did a few jokes. Some I got; some I didn’t.
Alicia Keys was stunning. I loved her dress and her hair. Rihanna won one of the first awards. Her dress was a little too long but it was a pretty color.
Fifty and Kanye squashed the rumors of a so-called beef during pre-show interviews as well as partnering to give out the Best Collaboration award, which Beyonce and Shakira won.
I love me some T.I. He had the crowd rocking.
Chris Brown is a very talented young man. I enjoyed his performance; although he did more dancing than singing 🙂

It’s official. Sherri Shepherd has been named the new host on ABC’S The View according to People Magazine’s website. Check out the interview I did with Shepherd earlier this year.
Shepherd’s resume includes roles on a variety of television shows such as The Jamie Foxx Show, Less Than Perfect, Everybody Loves Raymond, and numerous movies such as Guess Who and Beauty Shop. Prior to being named the host, along with Whoopi Goldberg, over the past few months Sherri had been guest hosting.
Shelia Goss: My first memory of you was as Sheila from The Jamie Foxx Show. Since then, I’ve seen you on various TV shows as well as guest hosting on The View. You appear to be a natural behind the camera. Did you always know you wanted a career in entertainment or was it something that “just happened”?
Sherri Shepherd: I knew at 4 years old, that I loved performing in front of people. At 4, my grandmother use to cook Sunday dinner for all of the family (cousins, 2nd cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts, etc.) and after we ate, she’d put me in front of them and say “do your little program” and I would make everyone laugh. As I got older, I knew I’d either be a radio deejay or I would marry Michael Jackson. My career did not just “happen”. As a Christian, I don’t believe in “coincidences”. I believe that God appoints and directs everything. So this career is truly a blessing from above.
Shelia: What has been one of your most unforgettable roles?
Sherri Shepherd: I LOVED playing the crazy “Sheila” on the Jamie Foxx show. Jamie allowed me to improv a lot of my scenes, and sometimes he’d be laughing so hard at my antics, he’d make me do take after take! There was one episode where I wanted to be in his music video, and I came out dancing crazy in a red dress… I fasted on water for 5 days before wearing that tight dress… after Jamie made me do that dance scene about 6 or 7 times, I was ready to pass out!
Shelia: You wear multiple hats (mother/actress/comedian/etc). a) How do you balance it all and b) How do you stay grounded with your success?
Sherri Shepherd: Girl… PRAYER!!!! And this baby has made me run to the grocery store to purchase some One-A-Day multivitamins! I stay grounded, cuz’ I know that this success is a blessing… God giveth and God taketh away.
Shelia: What advice would you give someone who is interested in pursing a career as an actor?
Sherri Shepherd: Make sure that is really what you want to do, cuz’ this business is not for the fainthearted. There are very few “overnight” successes. Most successful people you see, worked their butts off…so unless you get on American Idol and get in the Top 10 and make it to the Top 2, get ready for the long haul.
Shelia: What’s next for Sherri Shepherd? Any more TV shows or upcoming movies?

Anna Nicole Smith is dead but her name or should I say drama surrounding her name lives on. 
Larry Birkhead questions the reliability of sources used in a new book about Anna Nicole Smith.
Among the allegations in Cosby’s “Blond Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith’s Death,” are that Birkhead and Howard K. Stern, Smith’s attorney and companion, had an affair — and that an intimate moment between the two was caught on videotape.
“That’s totally false and it’s defamatory,” Birkhead said. “I’ve heard the sources from that, and those sources are people that don’t — that haven’t been in Anna’s life and haven’t even met me.” Read more…
This is one movie I plan on seeing on opening night, even if I have to go by myself. I love all of Tyler Perry’s movies. I saw the play of Why Did I Get Married about a year or two ago so it’ll be interesting seeing the film adaption. Check out the trailer below:

It seems Bobby isn’t too happy about the child custody arrangement with Whitney. According to legal papers Bobby filed, Whitney is supposedly blocking him from seeing their daughter Bobbi Kristina.
These reports counteract the reports on the gossip circuit about them two getting back together. Apparently those pics were taken when Bobby was trying to convince Whitney to let him see their daughter.
Whitney isn’t no different than other women. A woman scorned will sometimes make the mistake and try to keep the child away from their daddy. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved soon. Regardless of what we may think about the daddy, a child needs his or her father in their lives.

DMX a/k/a Earl Simmons is in trouble or is he? Over the weekend, the police raided his home in Arizona and removed some dogs and some reports mention drugs and weapons were also found during this raid.
According to DMX’s attorney Murray Richman, it was all about the blazing Arizona heat. Richman claims that someone reported the dogs were at risk because of the extreme temperatures, telling TMZ “Earl has a caretaker, who obviously wasn’t taking care. Earl loves those dogs.” Richman added that DMX isn’t even in Az and hasn’t been there for several months because he’s off working on a project. Source: TMZ.com
Will DMX be the only rapper targeted for raids due to the Michael Vicks case or will this become more common? Cruelty to animals is a no-no; but folks shouldn’t assume that people with more than 1 pet mistreats them.
I care about dogs and if you know me, you know I’ve had one since “peter was a pup” 🙂 but I care more about kids.

Army Wives on Lifetime has become one of my favorite shows to watch. It’s hard to pinpoint why. Maybe because it reminds me of the time of when my fiance (now ex-fiance) was in the service and I was left behind when he fought in the Gulf War. Anyway, if you haven’t seen the show; definately check it out in re-runs. If you do watch it, chime in and let’s discuss.

Update: The summer’s hottest new series ended in almost a bang. Frank, Trevor and Chase are deployed. I like the way the show portrayed the emotional good-byes. It was realistic. Some of the surprises was the person you thought would be pregnant wasn’t but someone you least expected to be pregnant was. It was appropriate that the show ended with them all at the bar. The surpise was when a disgruntle army husband walks in wearing a bomb. (I sort of figured he would be the culprit)…anyway, just when he gets ready to hit the trigger, the show goes off and Lifetime airs a clip of Halle Berry’s upcoming new movie. Now we have to wait until next season to see if he blows up the place, will anyone get hurt or will he come to his senses.

What books have you read recently?
Nicole Richie was sentenced to serve four days in jail for DUI, but faster than you can blink; Nicole was back on the streets. She spent 82 minutes or 1 hour and 22 minutes or 4, 920 seconds behind bars. 
If I lived in California, I would be upset. That’s a waste of taxpayers money. She might as well have gotten probation from the beginning.
Reality TV star Nicole Richie was released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after serving just 82 minutes of her four-day sentence for driving under the influence of drugs.
Richie reported to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood at 3:15 p.m. After being processed, sheriff’s officials released her at 4:37 p.m. Source: LA Times
I could spend 82 minutes in rush hour traffic trying to get from point A to point B. I could spend 82 minutes shopping at Wal-mart. I could spend 82 minutes surfing the net and not getting any work done. I wish I could get my a hair done in 82 minutes.

TMZ.com has obtained the plea agreement in the Michael Vick case. In it, Vick “admits the facts set forth in the statement of facts.”
A portion of the summary of facts reads “Vick agreed to the killing of approximately 6-8 dogs that did not perform well in testing sessions …”
He could face up to 5 years in jail.
